Huntingdon to Hebden Bridge by canal boat

Imagine Gosling, our thirty foot narrow boat, travelling from Huntingdon to Hebden Bridge. Imagine Mother and daughter co-owners raising money for forest restoration. Imagine a journey of 315 miles with 240 locks, 5 moveable bridges, 21 small aqueducts and 5 tunnels. The mission begins on June 9th...

After some research we chose Trees for Life, who have set themselves the magnificent task of renovating and restoring The Caledonian Forest in the Highlands of Scotland. They have already planted over half a million trees and plan to cover about 1,500 sq.km. with a natural, wild forest. The Caledonian Forest is one of the world's degraded ecosystems which desperately need to be healed. We will be doing the journey in two stages, and should arrive at Hebden Bridge by the last week in August. We will keep you up to date with the expedition - the highs, the lows and anything inbetween! Whenever we find a hot spot we will describe how we, as novices, engage with the vicissitudes and wonders of the waterways of England.
